Additionally, you or your student must have participated in your sport or activity for at least two years or full seasons to qualify. The scholarship is available for students who are Indian citizens with good academic records and who come from moderate-income families. To learn more about the criteria, ask your coach or other leaders of your activity.
Step One – Submit Your Application
To begin your path to the scholarship you’re hoping for, just visit the GIIS website to submit your virtual application. They make the process simple, so getting started is as easy as a few clicks.
However, while starting the process is a breeze, ensuring that your submission is complete involves including adequate documentation that qualifies you. What does this mean? It means tacking on the following files:
- Academic records from the previous two years.
- A self-declaration for gross family income.
- Your family’s income documentation and tax assessments for the past two years.
If you fail to include these documents, your application cannot and will not be processed, so be sure they’re submitted!
Step Two – Wait for Your Notification
After your application has been properly submitted in its entirety, you will need to wait up to ten business days to receive notification of its receipt. It is important to note that receiving this notification is not the same as receiving a scholarship award. Rather, this notification is simply to let you or your student know that your application was received and is being processed – and that no further documentation is needed from you.
If you do not receive this notification after ten business days, check to ensure that your application was properly submitted and that no documentation is missing.
Step Three – Undergo Skills Assessment
After your application is processed, it’s time to prove your merit. For scholarships based solely on academics, this would mean sitting for some kind of assessment. In this case, it means it's time to demonstrate your athletic aptitude. What this entails will depend on the stipulations set forth by your individual school, as well as the circumstances surrounding your assessment. For some, it may mean an in-person evaluation, while for others it may mean documentation of their performance, such as for sports or activities that are seasonal or otherwise difficult to demonstrate on-demand. Consult with your school to learn more about the type of evaluation you can expect.
Step Four – Nail Your One-on-One Interview
It is important to prepare for the one-on-one interview that will be held once your application has been accepted. While your demonstration of athletic achievement is important, it is also vital that you or your student can answer important questions about your academic goals as well. The in-person interview helps narrow the field of applicants and provides a better understanding of why those applicants may be pursuing the scholarship opportunity. To ensure that you are easily clear this hurdle, prepare at home by reviewing questions that you might be asked by interviewers, such as why you’re applying and what your goals in secondary and post-secondary school are.
Step Five – Land Your Scholarship
Once all phases of the sports scholarship application and interview process are finished, scholarship winners will be selected and notified. If you are chosen as a reward recipient, you will be notified and receive a disbursal of your reward during the upcoming academic term.
